How we built AI agents for a VC investment firm

How we built a team of AI analysts together with one of the Nordics' most active early-stage investors.
Every week, venture capital firms review hundreds of startups. Most never make it past the first screening, but getting them there still takes hours of gathering company information, checking market signals, and preparing internal reports.
The challenge
Deal flow was growing faster than manual research could keep up.
As one of the Nordics' most active early-stage investors, Luminar Ventures evaluates a lot of opportunities every month. Each one means collecting information from several sources, reviewing the company's fundamentals, and preparing materials for the team to discuss.
Much of it followed the same pattern every time: find the information, check it, summarize it, write it up. The hard part was never the investment decisions themselves, but finding the time and consistency to make them well.
The approach
A team of AI agents working behind the scenes.
Rather than a single automation tool, we designed the platform around how an analyst actually works. Different agents take on different jobs: gathering company information, screening opportunities against the firm's criteria, writing summaries, and preparing structured reports.
An orchestration layer coordinates the agents, hands out tasks, and pulls their output into one consistent format. Every step is logged, so the team can trace what happened and review, correct, or rerun anything when they need to.
The agents do the legwork, but every investment decision still sits with the team.
What we built
The research, the reporting, and the document work, now handled by agents.
- Automated company research and deal screeningAgents collect and structure information from multiple sources, so analysts spend far less time gathering it by hand.
- Investment summaries, reports and KPIsAgents turn the collected information into summaries, reports, and the KPIs the team tracks.
- Document analysisAI reads through hundreds of financial and operational documents and surfaces the figures and facts the team is looking for.
None of this replaces the analysts. It just means the same team can get through far more opportunities.
The outcome
Faster research, more consistent output, and room to take on more without adding people.
The platform now handles a large share of the research and screening work. Analysts spend less time on repetitive tasks, and the team gets through more opportunities each month without lowering the bar.
